Beauty Resolutions For Your Skin, Face, And Hair

If you’re thinking of resolutions to stick to throughout this new year, you might want to give beauty resolutions a shot. They’re often more doable than general resolutions, such as abstaining from booze from January through March or giving your diet a complete overhaul. Specific goals can also keep you fired up in case some of your long-term resolutions fall through. So, whether you’re thinking of focusing on your skin, face, or hair in 2019, here are 15 resolutions you won’t want to abandon!

15 Awesome Beauty Resolutions for 2019

RESOLUTIONS FOR SMOOTH SKIN

1. SLEEP WELL

Much has been said about the benefits of a good night’s sleep, including more productivity, a healthier heart, and reduced weight gain. At the same time, people are getting less sleep! This is linked to our dependence on screens and smartphones, which don’t just sap our sleeping hours but interfere with sleep quality because of blue light. Here are a few ways you can get better sleep in 2019:

  • Gradually cut down on your Facebook scrolling or Netflix binge-watching sessions night after night
  • Dim the bedroom lights while getting ready to sleep
  • Light a candle with a calming scent

2. WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERYDAY (NO EXCEPTIONS!)

Even on gloomy and overcast days, around 80% of ultraviolet rays still make it through the cloud cover. Also, a day without sunscreen might not seem like a big deal, but sun damage accumulates over time and shows up later on as sun spots or wrinkly skin. Be sure to wear sunscreen daily! You can also look for a day cream with SPF so that you can get moisturization and UV protection in one go.

Here are a few sunscreen brands for you to check out:

  • Sarah Chapman Skin Insurance, 30 SPF – lightweight formula and silky texture
  • , 45 SPF – hydrates skin and boosts collagen production
  • Zelens Daily Defense, 30 SPF – lightweight, oil-free, and loaded with antioxidants

3. TRACK WHAT YOU EAT

This resolution is often easier said than done. Your first instinct may be to cut your favorite indulgences out of your life completely, but this might make you crave it even more and give in later on. Why not try keeping a food diary? A food log can help take note of what you eat on a daily basis. You can then gently push yourself to choose healthier food instead of giving in to hunger pangs and cravings.

4. DRINK ENOUGH WATER

While “eight glasses a day” is a handy rule of thumb, the amount of water you really need can vary based on your height, weight, and level of physical activity. Take a look at the color of your urine instead. If it’s colourless, you’re drinking enough water.

5. KEEP YOUR BRUSHES CLEAN

Sure, this may sound like a mundane, time-consuming task. On the other hand, do you really want to drag dead skin cells, old makeup, and bacteria across your face day after day? Cleaning your brushes regularly can cut down your chances of getting breakouts or irritated skin from accumulated gunk. Plus, it keeps you from spending on a brand-new brush set!

6. STOP RESORTING TO FACE WIPES

Face wipes seem convenient for nights when you’re simply dead tired. However, they don’t help your complexion very much. Ditch them this year and take the time to cleanse your skin thoroughly at the end of each day. Take your nighttime routine a step further with this next resolution.

7. DO THE DOUBLE CLEANSE

Gels, oils, and creams can do a great job by themselves, but if you want to level up your skincare, go for a double cleanse. This isn’t a gimmick to make us spend twice as much on beauty products–research by Lancôme revealed that skincare staples work twice as hard on double-cleansed skin. Here’s the logic behind the double-cleanse:

  • The first cleanse removes grime, bacteria, and makeup. Use an oily product here.
  • The second cleanse deals with the make-up remover from the first step, aside from softening skin and clearing the pores. Use a water-based product.

8. TREAT YOURSELF TO A WEEKLY MASK

That’s right, you should be pampering yourself once a week with a face mask! These rich formulas cleanse deeply and leave your skin supple while you lie back and do next to nothing. Some of them offer additional benefits, such as antioxidants and a boost to the skin’s collagen production.

Looking for a luxurious mask? Here are three must-tries:

9. DON’T REUSE YOUR FACE TOWEL

Before reusing a face towel that you’ve left hanging in your bathroom, ask yourself: how often does it dry completely? A towel that’s even slightly damp can easily be home to countless bacteria. Spare your face and stick to fresh towels.

This is the same reason you shouldn’t leave your bath towel in the shower. Hang it near a window or anywhere that’s sufficiently airy and sunny. That way, you’ll be sure you aren’t smothering yourself with bacteria everytime you step out of the shower and dry yourself.

RESOLUTIONS FOR FABULOUS HAIR

10. DRY YOUR HAIR BEFORE YOU SLEEP

Sleeping with your hair wet can lead to much more than a wet spot on your pillow. Wet hair is more brittle, so just imagine the damage it takes from every toss and turn in bed. You also provide bacteria and fungi with a nice place to grow. This brings up your chances of getting a flaky and itchy scalp, weakened hair, or acne. Avoid all of this by drying your hair out before sleeping.

11. SWITCH TO DRY SHAMPOO EVERY NOW AND THEN

Fresh from a salon blowout? Skip the usual shampoo, which can strip natural oil right off your hair and make it brittle. Use dry shampoo instead. You may also wear your hair in a braid to make your blowout last through the second day.

12. PAMPER YOUR HAIR WITH A MASK

Your hair deserves a weekly mask as much as your skin! An easy way to pamper your hair is to rub coconut oil into your scalp, let it soak in for ten minutes, and rinse it off. This leaves you with healthy roots and keeps dandruff at bay.

13. AIR DRY YOUR HAIR

While the occasional blowout can help you achieve a picture-perfect ‘do, dry heat can damage your hair and leave it frizzy and brittle in the long run. Let your hair dry out by itself whenever you can.

14. USE HEAT PROTECTANT

Do you find yourself using hair dryers, straighteners, or curling wands a lot? Slather on some  to keep your hair smooth and healthy.

15. GET REGULAR TRIMS

Split ends don’t just make you look haggard, but they make your hair more prone to further damage. Meanwhile, chopping them off is a surefire way to help your hair look its best. Book a haircut every 6 to 8 weeks to say goodbye to split ends.

Have fun sticking to these 15 beauty resolutions. You’ll thank yourself when December comes around!
