Skincare Ingredients - Citrus Bergamia

Citrus Bergamia, also known as the 'bergamot', is a small evergreen citrus tree that produces essential oil.

The tree is usually grown in Italy and grows to a height of around 2m. It blossoms with beautiful white flowers followed by yellow fruit, which is a cross between a tangerine and a sour orange.

The first thing you need to know is that Bergamot Essential Oil isn't actually derived from the bergamot fruit. It is actually extracted from the rind of the bergamot and contains very little, if any, of the fruit's juice.

Bergamot essential oil is a very good mood enhancer and antidepressant, making it perfect for use in soaps, candles and body lotions.

It smells good. Very good, in fact - citrusy with a deep woody undertone, which provides an intriguing contrast.

Bergamot is useful in the treatment of aches and pains, particularly those involving muscles and bones. It can also be used for relief of rheumatic pain, sprains and bruises.

Bergamot is wonderfully refreshing, both physically and mentally, making it a superb choice for aromatherapy. It also makes an excellent disinfectant.

Bergamot is believed to be helpful in the treatment of acne, boils and smallpox. It is also believed to help with rheumatism, gout and feverish conditions.

Bergamot is also said to detoxify the body. The scent of bergamot is believed to affect the limbic system and to make people feel happier.
