Fact Check: Do You Have Dehydrated Skin

How do you know when the state of your skin is fine or not? One way is to check if you have signs of dehydrated skin.

Sounds easy? Not quite.

A lot of people see dry skin and dehydrated skin as similar when in fact, they are two different things. Although both require your attention, it helps to know one from the other to understand the measures that you need to take and control your condition.

In this infographic, you’ll be presented some of the facts you need to know about dehydrated skin.

What You Need to Know About Dehydrated Skin

DRY AND DEHYDRATED SKIN: THE MAIN DIFFERENCES

DRY SKIN

DEHYDRATED SKIN

  • Skin type
  • Results from inadequate production of natural skin oils
  • Can also be connected to hormonal imbalance and thyroid problems
  • Skin condition
  • Mainly characterized by insufficient water in the skin
  • Commonly caused by external factors like seasonal changes, food intake, and lifestyle choices.

Did You Know?

Since dehydrated skin is caused by a lack of water within the skin, even people with oily skin can suffer from this skin condition.

WHAT HAPPENS TO DEHYDRATED SKIN?

As the biggest organ in your body, your skin needs proper care. Your body requires water. Just as body organs fail due to lack of water, your skin also bears damages including but not limited to:

  1. Skin Sensitivity
  2. Irritation
  3. Premature Aging

SIGNS THAT TELL YOU HAVE DEHYDRATED SKIN

  • Feeling of Itchiness
  • Increased Skin Sensitivity
  • Inflamed Skin
  • Skin Tightness
  • Dullness
  • Rough, Flaky and Scaly appearance

6 EASY WAYS TO BEAT PROBLEMS WITH DEHYDRATED SKIN

1. LOAD UP ON WATER!

Start with the basics. Your body needs water and so does your skin. Drink water and observe ideal intake per day.

Remember the 8×8 Rule: Drink 8 eight-ounce glasses of water per day.

TIP: According to health experts, to stay hydrated, you have to sip on water constantly even when you’re not thirsty.

2. RESTRICT CAFFEINE & ALCOHOL INTAKE

Have you been drinking coffee and other caffeine-based products to fuel up your energy? Or have you been indulging in alcohol regularly? Now is the time to break the habit.

Caffeine and alcohol are among the major contributors to skin dehydration. Both acting as diuretics, they don’t help in retaining water in the skin and even prevents the production of vasopressin–a hormone essential for rehydration.

3. RINSE SKIN WITH COLD TO LUKEWARM WATER

To keep your skin protected, you have to know that using hot water can strip the skin’s natural oils and may cause skin dryness, acne breakouts, and skin irritation.

Beware!

Hot water may feel good when used to wash the skin but it is also a factor that contributes to skin dehydration.

4. KNOW THE BEST SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

Hydrating and moisturizing products commonly solve problems with dehydrated skin. However, hydrators and moisturizers differ in terms of purpose. Hydrators intend to add water to the skin while a moisturizer acts as a barrier that prevents water from the skin to evaporate.

5. REPLENISH SKIN WITH HYALURONIC ACID

One of the most effective ways to rehydrate skin is with the help of hyaluronic acid. With this serum, you can preserve your skin’s moisture while keeping your skin soft and supple.

6. CHOOSE GENTLE FACE SCRUBS

One of the foolproof ways to restore a glowing complexion is through exfoliation. However, when you have dehydrated skin, you have to choose gentle face scrubs to get rid of dead skin cells and avoid gritty scrubs that can worsen skin irritation.
